ALIVE & KICKING - Many New Businesses Set Up Shop on 5th Ave Bay Ridge

Despite the pandemic, and despite uncertainty, 5th Ave in Bay Ridge is seeing a resurgence of new businesses moving in to serve the community.  The latest vacancy numbers are lower than they were at the same time last year - further evidence that the Avenue is resilient. So what kinds of new businesses are moving in?  We have new grocery, retail, and personal care businesses.  Some older businesses are even doubling down and renovating their spaces.  5th Ave Bay Ridge is alive and kicking.  Let’s take a tour!

Amiree, located at 8320 5th Ave, celebrated their grand opening with a celebratory ribbon cutting a few weeks ago where Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan welcomed business owners Ali and Monia to the neighborhood.  Visit Amiree and see what great deals they have on an array of men’s and women’s casual wear today.

Do you need to manage your mane?  Stop off at City Barber Shop located at 8301 5th Ave.  Jason just held his grand opening on Friday.  The welcoming storefront with sleek new awning and barbershop graphic, beckons shaggy haired heads to look great again.  And don’t worry, the BID stocked them up face masks, face shields and temperature gauge so you can feel safe while City Barber does up your hairdo.

Be sure to stop into at Fig and Olive located at 8006 5th.  For months the new Mediterranean grocery had been renovating the space formerly occupied by Bay Ridge Mini Supermarket.  One visit to their new space and you will see that it was worth the wait.  Fresh fruits and veggies adorn the shelves.  You can also get Halal meats, olive oils and other specialty products.

Appliances Connection (aka, Joe’s Appliance located at 7812 5th Ave) is no newcomer – they have served Bay Ridge and beyond for 48 years.  Arlene gave the BID staff a tour of their newly renovated showroom which features a wide selection of washers, dryers, stove tops, refrigerators, air conditioning and much more.  The new space is light, airy, inviting, and certainly shoppable.  If you need it, they got it! Asal, located at 7616 5th Ave, looks to be coming along.  Their new awning is up and they beautified the tree pit at their store front.  Rumor has it the shop will feature Yemeni Honey and other possible products.  We are excited to see what this new business brings to the neighborhood once they open.

5th Ave Bay Ridge is strong – don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  We have the most diverse stores, our residents care, and our community supports local business. So come take a stroll on the Avenue and do you part to contribute to our wonderful neighborhood.
